As part of the Flemish government's asbestos abatement policy, an asbestos inspection will be mandatory starting in November 2022 if the home you want to sell was built before 2001.
In fact, it has been proven that exposure to asbestos poses great health risks. Tiny asbestos fibers that are not visible to the naked eye cause lung cancer, pleural cancer and peritoneal cancer, among other things, over time. To reduce health risks, the government wants to make an asbestos inspection mandatory.
The asbestos inventory or otherwise called the asbestos inspection requires sellers of a house (older than 2001) from November 2022 onwards to provide buyers with transparent information about the possible presence of asbestos in the house.
