Are your houseplants looking a bit lousy at the moment? Do they have yellow or brown spots? A wrinkled leaf? The dark days and the heating that is turned on do not do your houseplants any good!
Here are a few tips to help your houseplants through the winter so that your interior always looks its best:
- Make sure that the air for your houseplants is not too dry and make the air in your house more humid by placing bowls of water on the radiator or hang trays on your radiator and keep them filled with water so that it slowly evaporates.
- Spray your plants once or twice a week with a plant spray, also on the underside of the leaves.
- Plants with thin leaves should not be placed on the heating. Give them a different place!
- Take a bowl that is bigger than the bottom of your plant's pot. Place the pot with the plant on the dish. Make sure the pot is closed at the bottom (roots should not be wet all the time). Fill the bowl with a layer of pebbles, and then fill it with a layer of water. The water will slowly evaporate due to the heat, and moist warm air will rise along the leaves instead of dry warm air.
- Do you have floor heating? Do not place the plants directly on the ground, but make sure there is at least 20 cm distance between the floor and the bottom of the pot.
- Move your plants a little closer to the window so they are not in a dark corner during the winter.
